I'm mildly in love with My Little Pony, hehe! I attempted to do a Rarity-inspired manicure (the pony on the bottom left, btw) before, and it was just like... disastrously overdone, haha! So I toned it down, went with a more simple look, and I really love how it turned out! I did the art with a dotting tool, and used a dozen different polish colors. If you would like to know what any of them are, please ask! :)

I've been gone forever. A lot has gone on in my life since my last post. Good things, mostly! I got engaged on May 8th, 2011, and we're getting married in a few months on October 20th. So there's been a lot of wedding planning and preparing for married life that's gotten in the way. And laziness on my part, of course. ;) I got out of what became a terrible job, and found something that suits me much better and challenges me every day. It's also an office job, which is treating my nails well. They're still a bit shy about growing, but they're longer and stronger than they ever were when I was working as a baker. I still paint almost every day, and enjoy stamping even more now than I did when I was blogging.

This isn't a promise that I'll be back to blogging full time, unfortunately, but I'll do my best to update once in a while, just so people know I'm not dead. ;) Until that time, though, enjoy some cute pony manicures.

I was poking around the polishes at a Midwest superstore called Meijer and happened to pick up a bottle of Sinful Colors Daddy's Girl. I know that some bloggers have a lot of love for it, but I've always been on the fence. However, what I saw yesterday completely changed my perspective.
Blue, red, gold! That doesn't show on the nail, but my pictures don't even get close to capturing the beautiful colors coming from this bottle.

The formula that I found is on the left. The original formula is on the right.

If you've seen Daddy's Girl swatched before, you know the drill. It's a purple jelly polish, and near impossible to capture. It comes through very blue in my picture, unfortunately. In reality, it's a true purple jelly, with stunning red shimmer running through it. I'm finding that the red-violet color really compliments my skin tone!

And here's the standard bottle shot. This is a good one to click to see the red shimmer! This is three easy coats.

I really hope that this is a completely new formula, but I can't be sure. It could just be an odd batch. It seems like their new polishes all have a raised "SC" on the cap, but this bottle doesn't have that. I adore this red shimmer version. It reminds me of Nfu-Oh 51 without the flakes. <3

So has anyone else seen this version floating around?

Thanks for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-78224183914047584702011-02-07T00:19:00.000-05:002011-02-07T00:19:14.728-05:00Nail Tek Xtra and Milani Garnet Gems review!First and foremost, I forgot to post this! Almost a month ago, while fellow blogger Jill from Just Peachy was on a Hawaiian vacation, I did a guest post for her! Click here for my review of Milani Garnet Gems!

I also wanted to give you guys an update on my peeling nails situation.

Instead of jumping right back to Sally Hansen Miracle Cure (which has an absurd name that I honestly just equate with snake oil), I opted instead to give Nail Tek Xtra a try.

The bottle says that it's for difficult, resistant nails. The box even says that this should be used on nails that other products don't seem to help. That sounds like mine! So I'm giving it a shot. While we were snowed in last week, I took the time to give myself a very nice manicure. I used cuticle remover, pushed back my cuticles, and also took the time to buff the surface of my nails. I don't usually do this, but this seemed to help. I don't have outstanding ridges, but the buffing and shining really helped reduce the severity of the peeling that was going on.

I've been wearing the Nail Tek base coat since. I know that it will take a while to notice progress, but I'm already seeing a definite turn around in the nosedive my nails were taking. I'm looking forward to seeing just how well this Nail Tek Xtra holds up.

As always, thanks for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-12173999948842861132011-01-31T23:39:00.000-05:002011-01-31T23:39:16.199-05:00Oh, the weather outside is frightful!Do you ever look peek at a blog sale and find yourself wanting something so bad, but knowing that you shouldn't buy it? I have to keep telling myself "Repeat after me: 'I will not spent $50+ on a few bottles of Lippmann polish, I will NOT spend $50+ on a few bottles of Lippmann polish!!!'"

...Though they're three great colors that I really want........

I WILL NOT SPEND $50+ ON LIPPMANN POLISH!!!

...... *cough*

Apparently Snowpocalypse is in the process of hitting us. What is my reaction to this? Do I rush out to the superstores and stock up, or fill my car with blankets and emergency rations just in case of a slide off?

Psssh, of course not! I was too busy giving myself a cute snow manicure!

Here's both my right and left hand. I used Nicole by OPI Midnight Snowfall (which has a ridiculously appropriate name, by the way) for the base. Like all blurples, the color in the photo is, of course, inaccurate. I like this polish a lot because it's simply the most straight forward blue violet cream I've seen, I think. I used two coats here, but ladies with longer nails will likely want three. It's a little thin for being such a dark polish, but the end color is totally worth it! For the snowflakes, I used Nicole by OPI Positive Energy. I used one snowflake on each nail (not bothering to line them up nicely, obv), and two flakes on each thumb.

Sorry for no bottle or plate pictures. They're all over at Bradley's apartment, which is far across the frozen tundra. :P

Considering that I managed to do this manicure and watch Lost at the same time, I think it turned out pretty well!

I have a question for you ladies! Outside of the China Glaze Khrome and Romantique polishes, what others work very well for stamping? I've been using Nicole by OPI Positive Energy and Light a Candle a lot lately, and I also just picked up a metallic pink from Orly. Also, what's the best opaque white polish to use for stamping, outside of the special polishes? Please share any and all suggestions!

Adorable sad kitty for your troubles.

I have a BIG problem with my nails peeling. They're almost always peeling to a certain extent, but a huge chunk almost half the size of my entire nail just flaked off of my thumb, and it makes me sad. :( I understand that a way to reduce peeling is to not expose your hands to so much water, but I'm sorry to say that less exposure to water isn't an option for me, so I need a different solution.

I think that Sally Hansen's Miracle Cure base coat might have been helping, but my bottle got awfully thick about half way through, and I stopped using it. My new base coat does jack, though, and the peelies are back. I've considered buying more Miracle Cure, but it doesn't seem to be worth the $7.00 if I can't use the second half of it. :/

Anyone that has peeling nails and a great base coat that treats them well, I want to hear from you! I definitely prefer something that I can buy in a store as opposed to online, but I'm open to every suggestion.Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-13127469467641972212011-01-24T00:26:00.000-05:002011-01-24T00:26:31.021-05:00Getting older.

I decided a couple weeks ago that it was time to break down and try some nail stamping. I went with the Bundle Monster plates from Amazon (which you can find here). At twenty-one plates for $17.99, it was definitely worth a shot. My first few attempts were pretty disappointing, but I think that's to be expected. And then I got this:

Thankfully this particular manicure worked out very well. I love houndstooth. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that it's my favorite pattern. :) This was two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out (I believe that's what it's called) with a stamped coat of Studio M French Tip.

You can tell that I didn't clean the plate before doing the index and middle finger on the second picture. I know better now, hehe... I stamped every finger vertically, and then stamped each thumb horizontally. Since the stamping color was white, cleanup was the easiest thing. :)

I adored this manicure! I believe that I wore it for three full days before I forced myself to take it off and put something new on, just so I wouldn't get out of the habit. It hadn't even chipped, though. :) A definite success, if you ask me.

As for the title of this entry, I am getting older. Today is my birthday. :) I don't yet know how I feel about turning twenty-five. I don't feel like I've achieved the accomplishments that I thought I would have by now. Shouldn't I have an actual profession? Some sort of road map detailing the plans for the rest of my life?

Though I'm not always sure of where I'm going, I am always certain of this: I love the life I've been given, no matter how uncertain I become. I am blessed every single day, even when I'm being too self-absorbed to see it. The good in my life outweighs the bad in an outstanding way.

I have parents that love me, and sibling that I connect with, and family that looks out for my well being. I have friends that always listen and persevere, even if I'm the one that's made things hard. I have an amazing man in my life that overfills my heart with joy every time I see his smile.

Even if twenty-five is uncertain, I do know. If this year to come is as richly blessed as the year that's passed, I am fully ready for it.

:)

Seven random things about me:

1. You will almost always find me with a book on my person. Even when I'm carrying a small purse, there will most likely be a paperback jammed inside. :)

2. I'm not quite as violently nerdy as I used to be, but there's certainly still things that I nerd out about from time to time. I absolutely love Joss Whedon's work, and I still play video games when I can make them my main focus. I've also come to really enjoy strategic board games.

3. I hate needles more than almost anything else! I doubt that I'll ever be able to get a tattoo, even if I really, really want one. I was also too afraid of the needles to muster up the courage to get any other piercings, so I decided instead to stretch the lobe piercings that I have. I'm sitting pretty at a 0g, and I'm very pleased with them. :)

4. I used to wear contacts, but a few years ago, I opted to go back to glasses. Why? I was very irresponsible about making sure that my contacts came out every night. Also? I look pretty great in glasses. lol

5. A couple random things that make my skin crawl that might not bother other people are utensils or straws scraping against Styrofoam, and just the thought of chewing on a wool glove or mitten. Weird, right? I've got shivers thinking about how unsettling those things are, though.

6. One of my favorite things to listen to is a podcast called Stuff You Should Know. The hosts are always informative and entertaining, and there isn't much than I love more than learning new and interesting things!

7. I never really thought that I would keep writing in this blog. Posts may be few-ish and far-ish between, sure, but the writing is still happening. I can't thank you, my readers, enough for motivating me! <3

1. Why did you make this blog?
I don't know how I originally ran across it, but sometime last Spring I fell absolutely head over heels for the China Glaze Up and Away collection. I found swatches of it on Gina's blog Prim and Polished, and and needed to have the collection. After spending almost $40 on nail polish in one day (a number that doesn't always seem so small now... lol) I decided that I couldn't spend that much money without sharing my polishes with people. So I started a blog. :)

2. What kind of blogs do you read?
I mainly read nail blogs. Beauty blogs are sometimes fun to read as well. I also enjoy cooking blogs on occasion.

3. Do you have a favorite make-up brand?
I don't really have a favorite brand. I very rarey wear makeup. On the odd occasion that I do wear it, it's never more than eyeshadow, mascara, and maybe some tinted lip balm.

4. What about the favorite clothing brand?
Again, I don't really have a favorite brand. If it fits and looks good, I'm in. I do most of my shopping at a secondhand boutique called Clothes Mentor. I spend so much time in my work clothes every week that I have a very hard time dropping lots of money on clothes that I know will just sit in my closet gathering dust. Plus, I have this crazy nail polish addiction. Something had to give!

5. What piece in you make-up bag is the most important to you?
My nail polish! Haha! Like I said, I don't wear makeup often enough to care. As far as my nails go, though, I have a little container with acetone and plastic scrubby bristles inside. This is quite possibly my favorite nail-related toy. No more scrubbing at glitter! Let your finger soak a moment and then move it up and down to let the bristles do the work. How nice is it to idly watch television while you remove stubborn nail polish? Sooooo nice. <3

6. Your favorite color?
My favorites are green, teal, and purple. I'm a little more picky about my blues, but honestly, I'm pretty much in love with the whole cool side of the color spectrum.

7. Favorite perfume?
I'm also not a big perfume wearer. Gah! I fail as a beauty blogger! D: I do enjoy some scents, though. I really like Bath and Body Works' Vanilla Noir perfume.

8. Your favorite movie?
I really like Serenity, Braveheart, A Tale of Two Sisters, [REC], Garden State, (500) Days of Summer... I'm pretty flexible about movies that I'll watch and enjoy.

9. What countries would you like to visit?
I would really like to visit Europe someday. I know that Europe consists of several countries. :) But I would like to see them.

The rules are: copy the picture, answer the questions and send it to your favorite blogs!

1. Thank and link back to the giver of the award. (Thank you, Morgan! Hoosier Power!)

2. Sum up your blogging philosophy, motivation, and experience using 5 words: Gotta flaunt them digits, yo! (Or, "Sole purpose: to induce lemmings.")

3. Pass it on to other bloggers that you feel have substance in their blogs.

Make sure you check out the blogs of the lovely ladies that tagged me as well! :)Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-92110940881666228992011-01-08T20:49:00.001-05:002011-01-08T20:52:03.868-05:00Swapapalooza!!!!!My favorite thing about nail polish collecting is the treasure hunt aspect of it. It's a lot of fun to stumble across rare gems in nail salons, but I find swapping even more fun. And what's better than giving nice things you've found to people that want them? Especially when they give you a treasure that you've been seeking in return! Genius!

These are three swaps that I've conducted lately with some very special ladies. I love everything that I've received from them! I'm putting them in chronological order.

This is my swap with Barbara from Biba's Beauty Corner. She's a darling lady from Slovenia, and I was extremely eager to engage in this swap.

I originally requested the swap so that I could get my hands on S-he Stylezone #466, the gray polish. I'll post my mani sometime, but it's absolutely gorgeous. It's a gray with a touch of blue, and filled with a subtle golden shimmer. I've found that it looks different in almost every light. Gorgeous!

Aren't they beautiful? I'm saving the pink holo polish for when it's more sunny out. The brown there on the left is incredibly stunning as well. It's going to be a wonderful winter polish!

Barbara also added some of my polishes to her Barry M order! Wow! <3

I had wanted Back to Paradise (the middle polish), but the other two were new to me! :)

The Twilight Essense polish is going to be gorge for winter, too!

My second swap is from Tammy, author of Canadian Nail Fanatic. Let me tell you, I was very anxious to receive this swap!

Along with the polishes that she sent me, she also sent along the little booklet from CND (which of course makes me wish I could have more!) along with a little baggie filled with a generous number of multicolored nail art gems. I'm not huge into nail art now, but I'm looking forward to using these whenever I get around to buying Bundle Monster and Konad plates!

Can you see why? I've been lemming the CND Night Factory duo since I first saw them swatched, but as far as I know, there's nowhere to buy them here in town. Tammy very generously swapped these with me. And wait... can you see...?

That's right! Merry Midnight! <3 <3 <3 <3 This has been another huge item on my wish list! Oooo la la, and isn't it gorgeous?! Even though this wasn't a big swap a la number of polishes, it was definitely a worthwhile swap for me. I am in love with these polishes!

And check out these great extras! She sent me two beautiful Colorama flakie topcoats!

This last swap here is from Jill over at Just Peachy! After seeing Cosmetic Arts All the Trimmings, I contacted her to see if she could find it for me. Our small polish swap morphed into a bigger, more exciting and polish-filled endeavor!

Check out these goodies! I'm super psyched to wear all of these!

These are the three Cosmetic Arts polishes she sent me (All the Trimmings in the middle!), along with a tube of Jesse's Girl primer. Thank you again for finding these for me, Jill!

She also sent me LA Splash Golden seahorse, this neat Oke Doke polish, and a little tube of Jesse's Girl lip gloss. And do you see those little pods? They're eyeshadows! Jill is such a dear, mixing up a couple eyeshadows for me! From what I can see from the outside (I don't want to open them until I use them. Spilling them on accident would be a tragedy!), the top one is a purple-gold mix and the bottom one appears to be a stronger pink-peach with a hint of gold as well. These are both gorgeous colors that I can't wait to wear with the primer she sent! :)

I had a wonderful time swapping with these three fantastic ladies, and I'm looking forward to future swaps with each of them. :D I encourage all of you to check out their blogs and follow them, if you aren't already!

My girl Janet sent me a text yesterday to say that she'd been to a beautician supply shop in town and that they had new nail polish. Thinking that it was China Glaze's On Deck collection, I wasn't overwhelmingly excited. The colors look nice, but nothing that I'm impatient for. When she replied, though, she said that they had Tronica.

WHAT.

I had a miniature freakout before begging her to take me to pick them up today. So this is a massive shout out to the totally awesome gal that never seems to get tired of feeding my polish habit. Janet, hugs, kisses, and massive squishes to you! Thank you!

Don't mind the bracelets holding them in place. Turns out polishes in round bottles like to roll over and hide their labels.

I'll apologize before I start for a few things.
A) It's winter in Indiana and I wash my hands 234238923 times a day. All the lotion in the world can't save my skin right now, especially if I'm swatching.
B) Being winter in Indiana, there's no sun out. :( I'm happy with a collection of holo polishes regardless, but you'll have to wait for another blogger to post sunny pictures.
C) Between my OttLite, my camera, and all of the negative sun going on here, I know that I didn't do these justice. I really wanted to share the collection with everyone, though! :)

All of the pictures you see are two coats of polish with no top coat, in an effort to make the holo effect stand out more prominently.

I haven't yet seen these colors compared to the polishes in the OMG collection, but as I pointed out with each polish I swatched, I feel that they're basically either the same, or so similar that you don't need both. I own most of the OMG collection, so it's a slight disappointment for me. However, I think that the Tronica collection is going to be a great way for people to pick up colors that they missed out on when OMG was readily available. Also, these China Glaze holo polishes look like they're fantastic for stamping, and I've seen some really amazing nail art where they're used. For avid stampers, having this new-old collection back will probably be very nice.

I personally feel like the formula on these new Tronica holos is better than the formula from the OMG collection. Maybe I'm imagining things? I had many issues with streaking and balding with the OMG colors, and I didn't have those issues with these polishes.

Don't forget your holo polish basics! Wearing a base coat with this formula of polish can be the cause of bald spots and drag, so it's advisable to not wear one at all. Don't worry about nail staining, though. Holo polishes seem to have a different pigmentation that doesn't (so far as I know) stain. Two coats is sufficient for a dark color, maybe three for a lighter shade. Wearing a top coat over the polish will reduce the rainbow effects, so if you can keep yourself from wearing a top coat, the polish will give you a greater show.

Which Tronica polishes will you be picking up?

I have some really great things coming, guys! Holiday updates abound! I've also been in a load of great swaps lately, which I'm thrilled to be making posts about. Thank you for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-83998815119300510232010-12-15T23:57:00.001-05:002010-12-15T23:58:09.246-05:00Oy!First, a quick note! Thank you to everyone that left me encouraging notes in my last entry about Brad being away. :) It really helped me feel better! We had some serious snow last weekend, though, so he decided to come home early. So I saw him Saturday morning before he left to hang out with his friends, and I saw him Sunday night after his long drive in the crazy snow back to his apartment here... We STILL haven't gone a day without seeing each other. Our record still stands!

Life is pretty busy right now!

My temp job at the college bookstore started up again last week. I work just shy of full time at my normal job, and then put in at least five and a half hours each night I'm scheduled to temp. It's not hard work, it's just a long, long time to be on your feet (twelve hours a day, what what!). That being said, I've found myself pretty worn out lately. People aren't rude or mean, but everyone is tired or stressed about final exams, and I think that they all just want holiday break to start. I can't blame them there!

At the end of the semester, the bookstore will check in textbooks that were rented out, and buy back books that students purchased for their classes but no longer want or need. I give people the money for their books. :) Needless to say, I see a pretty incredible number of people. I helped 228 people today just by giving them the money for the textbooks they sold. This doesn't include the other book and item sales I made. It was a pretty fulfilling day. :)

Yesterday I wore Milani Blue Flash. A couple girls liked it, but one specifically pointed it out and mentioned a couple other very similar colors (Absolutely Alice and Dorothy Who?) in asking what it was. I was pretty psyched to tell her what I was wearing. She showed me that she was wearing a newer Sally Hansen polish. "Wet Cement," she said, cool as a cucumber. Of course I already knew who made it! Haha! I wish that she would have hung around to gab a little, but alas, a line was building. I very much love the ladies in the blogging community, but I would be tickled to have a friend in real life as obsessed with polish as me! <3

Sorry for the rambling. :) Ten days until Christmas! Gak! I'm so not ready!

I'll play myself out with a little bit of polish.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-80822562843722932742010-12-11T23:10:00.001-05:002010-12-11T23:11:14.814-05:00Color Club - Wild at HeartToday isn't a very good day for me. I knew it was coming, but how do you really prepare for it?

My boyfriend is originally from Ohio. A couple months ago, he moved to the city where I live. :) His hometown is about two hours away. Not far, really. One of old college friends decided to take a trip out to Brad's hometown to see a bunch of his friends there, so of course Brad wanted to see him. I wanted Brad to go see his friends, too. I'm not a ridiculous mouthbreathing clingfest, after all. I do love him entirely, though. These will be the first days in almost three months that we will be apart. Since he's moved here, we've been together every single day. I hope that he (and everyone else) can forgive me for being a little downtrodden and sad for these next few days. It's harder than I expected.

I didn't much feel like doing my nails earlier. I put a bunch of glittery topcoats over my current manicure (Misa Dirty Sexy Money), but that only served to make me more indecisive as to which I liked best. Huff. So I picked pictures from a manicure I did last weekend.

I wore this as a manicure over the weekend hoping to catch some sun at some point, but that never happened. Darned Indiana winter! I took these pictures hoping that I wouldn't have to settle with them, but eh. What can you do? lol

This was two super easy coats. As holographic polishes can sometimes leave bald spots when you layer on additional coats, I made sure that the first coat was completely dry before swooping in for a second. And lucky me, being a holo polish, it didn't take long to dry at all. :)

I'm reeeeeaaaallllyyyy looking forward to wearing Wild at Heart when the weather warms up and the sun comes back out again. It's still a beautiful color, but it seems a shame that the gray skies didn't give me a ray of sun to let this polish's true beauty shine through. I still got a few compliments on it!

Soooo... Back to doing, um... Nothing, really. I need to actually do my nails this time (not just glitterbomb them), so maybe I'll turn on some Buffy and then call it an early night.

Please enter! :) Clickity-click!

I have to say, the first time I saw Perplex, I wasn't super psyched. But let me tell you why! I was in the midst of buying some polish from Mary over at Body & Soul (seriously, if you're not already following her, do it now. She's a really neat gal and she writes a stellar blog!), and through my own misunderstanding, I had expressed interested in Cover Girl Purplexed. It's a very pretty purple, but oops! Not what I was after! (Also, ugh, cosmetic companies! Why do you have to use such similar names!?). So when I saw the full display at Ulta, I remember thinking "Too bad I already bought you!"

So anyway, I worked things out with Mary and ended up going back to Ulta to buy three bottles! One for me, one for her, and one for a lucky reader! :) The girls at Ulta thought I was crazy ("You already have every polish imaginable, and now you're buying three bottles of the same color?"), but that's pretty standard, I suppose.

Pictures!
I'm not used to taking photos under such a great light source. Unfortunately, a lot of purples still look blue. Please use your imagination (seeing as my camera has none). Do you see the streak of subtle shimmer there on the middle finger? The bottle was gorgeous. Swathes of the pure purple shimmer floated in the dusky purple cream. It was a beautiful polish to wear!
I'm not unfamiliar with Revlon polishes, but it's not very often that I find a color interesting enough to buy. This was a great color and wonderful polishing experience!
So what do you think of Perplex? Is it on your wish list?

I just wanted to let all of you know that the giveaway is coming, I promise! I just started back up at my temp job again today, and after a full day of work, I can tell you that I'm NOT looking forward to the many, many 12+ hour days that I know are coming my way. I would be happier and more content if I only focused on my primary job, but it always feels very good to be able to dump all of the checks from the temp job into my bank account. My savings isn't always solid (have you seen my nail polish collection? lol), so it's nice to be able to sit solidly on a larger amount for a while. Just in case, right?

So, long story short, I hope to have the giveaway posted by tomorrow night. :)

Have a good one!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-31602724642334738642010-12-08T00:33:00.000-05:002010-12-08T00:33:10.856-05:00"Do you love my insides? The parts you can't see?"I hope that I don't lose any readers for this, but I'm a shameless Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. I'm watching through the series *cough* again *cough*, and loving it. The first season is a wee bit rough. Most first seasons are, but this series in particular, in my opinion, considering that it's set in the late nineties (gah, wtf fashion?!) and, y'know, the whole vampire and monster slayage. :)

I made it through season one and have zipped on into season two. Significantly less awkward! And probably one of my personal favorite seasons. Some of my favorite characters are in season two. :) Spike is featured from the second season on, but he's my favorite in the beginning. Who doesn't love a bad boy? Also, the second season features Angelus' first appearance, which is absolutely sublime. (I'm not a big fan of Angel, but when he loses touch with his soul and turns into Angelus? The unleashed character is significantly better, in my opinion!)

But really, who doesn't enjoy Drusilla? Dark, disconnected, delightfully mad? I couldn't help but try out a Drusilla-inspired manicure.

This was also my first go at a scotch tape manicure. :) It was okay for a first try. I didn't realize how rounded my middle, pointer, and thumb nails are, though! Haha!

If all of my fingers would have looked this nice, I would have worn this manicure even longer!

One coat of Ulta's Lunar Eclipse with one coat of the Rimmel French Tip White on the tips. This is a great full coverage white, by the way! And the little bitty brush in the bottle is fantastic!

Great nails, Dru! Spike could use a fresh coat, though. ;) (Frame taken from What's my Line? Part One)

Fun fact! Did you know that her nail color changes according to her health? Black is used in her manicure if she's weakened, and red is used when she's her full on evil self. :)

Aaaaand just a couple more pictures, because I feel like it.

The man's so great when he's bad! I'm still very much under the impression that fictional vampires can be sexy and completely badass without sparkling.

I'm a big Joss Whedon fan, so don't be terribly surprised if I mangle some more theme manicures in the future. I hope that you enjoyed the Drusillicure! Thank you for reading!
The most important thing first!

I have ninety-six wonderful followers! I would like to thank you all so very much for taking the time to read my little blog. I hadn't ever expected that people might be interested in my simple life and little nubs. :) Thank you all again, so very much!

I'd like to announce that once I reach one hundred followers, I'll be posting a new giveaway! It's not a lot, but I will say that it's a new, hard to find polish that has dozens of bloggers on a wild goose chase. ;) I can't wait to get it started!

I was looking through the weekly ads and noticed that JoAnn Fabrics (is it still called that?) has OttLite lamps on sale for 50% off this week! I live in the Midwest, and during winter months, proper light is reduced to, y'know, zero. :) I wore Color Club's Wild at Heart all weekend, hoping to see a glimpse of sunlight, but no luck. How great would a proper lamp be?

So my question is, which light is most advised for the pictures that we take? I don't need a floor light, so a desk lamp is most appropriate. But which one? Do you use a particular model? Do you like it?

Onto Orly Royal Navy. I love when you can see the ripple effect that a polish has through the blogging community. As far as I know, Royal Navy has been in Orly's core line for a while, but a few months ago, it gained a popularity with bloggers. First there would be one post. Then three. And they kept coming. :)

Look at how jelly sheer it is! This is three coats. I didn't notice the VNL until I took pictures of it in the light. It was a great color, though! Blues are usually not my cup of tea, and I'm still not entirely sure that I'm going to add this one to my permanent collection. But for a blue? It was pretty great. :)

This is long for me, haha! Perhaps the color would look best on me if I wasn't wrestling with the VNL issue.

Gorgeous!

Cute! Also, ignore my pinky. I believe this is when I had a run in with a straight razor. :(

I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on OttLites. I'd love to get this giveaway up on its feet. If you have any nail buddies that you think might like my blog, I'd love it very much if you'd pass my name along! :)

As always, thank you for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-3828745243556744222010-11-30T00:23:00.000-05:002010-11-30T00:23:52.493-05:00Sally Hansen - Gray by GrayHey all!

It's been, what? Twenty-two, twenty-three days? Sheesh. I wonder if they make sheepish emoticons? I'll have to check sometime. :)

Unless there was serious drama brewing, I was never very good at keeping a well-updated personal blog. I had hoped that having a blog that others could read would motivate me to write more, but that's not always the case. Clearly. ;) If only my endless polish-related buying and hoarding would screech to a snail's pace along with my blogging!

I wore Sally Hansen's Gray by Gray a little while back. I have a few of the Complete Manicure polishes, but this is the first one that I've worn for an actual manicure. (Outside of Hidden Treasure, of course. Everyone knows that you slap a coat of Hidden Treasure on almost everything! Psssh!!!)
Not being a huge fan of OPI's wide brush (gasp! shock! horror~!), I thought that I would hate this one. It's almost the complete opposite, though. The consistency of my polish was great, and the applying it with that brush meant that I could practically do it in my sleep. I also love how bottom heavy these bottles are. I'm often a Clumsy McDropsalot, and painting my nails rarely escapes my blunders. It was relieving to have a heavy, sturdy bottle and a very manageable applicator. :)

Here's hoping, once again, that I can beat out this laziness and keep writing! Thank you for reading!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-64324600798057806122010-11-07T21:57:00.000-05:002010-11-07T21:57:20.506-05:00Studio M - Wicked Hot + IsaDora Grafitti fun!Good evening!

Can I share something with you? I love Daylight Savings Time! I live in Indiana, and up until a couple years ago, we didn't observe Daylight Savings at all. While everyone else was switching their clocks forward or back, we very conveniently ignored all of that. :) Being the little interwebernaut that I was before the switch, it was very frustrating. I had friends all over the country and world that I wanted to keep up with! What time was it where Friend A lived? Is it okay to call Friend B, or is it too late?

Now that we're finally caught up with the rest of the country, though, I very much enjoy the change! People here still grumble about it, but my being super happy about it balances out some of the grumpiness.

On the docket for today, I have Studio M's Wicked Hot!

I MUST show you my Grafitti fun first, though!! I was extremely happy with this outcome. This is one coat of IsaDora's Masterpiece Pink over two coats of Studio M's Wicked Hot. I wore Wicked Hot on a Friday, and was attending a friend's birthday gathering that night, so I slapped on a coat of Masterpiece Pink.

I admit that I wasn't certain how I felt about a light pink crackle polish like this, but I've been entirely impressed with it every time I've worn it. I LOVE that it leaves jagged cracks more frequently than it breaks into big sections with thick veins of the base polish between the crackled portions. Does that make sense? I see that a lot with the Barry M Nail Effects polish that's big now, and I don't like it. I love the way this one looks! <3

Also, it was tons of fun trying to set my camera timer and hold my hands perfectly for the shot. This was the best one I had. After about ten pictures, I was sick of it. Haha!

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program.

This is two coats of Wicked Hot. The first coat was somewhat sheer, so I can't help feeling like this is something of a jelly? It was a pretty standard color, but I enjoyed it for a day. Very pretty for Fall and Winter.

Why do they put sale stickers RIGHT on the front?! P.S. These polishes are great stuff for $2.99, and finding them cheaper is even more fun! The collection put out for Fall didn't really make a big splash where I live, I guess, so there's still plenty of these colors floating around. :)

And here's a quick bottle shot so that you can get a better idea of the color. Think the deepest, juiciest grape juice you've ever drank, and that's the color you'll get on your nails.

I don't know if I'll be wearing this color again soon, but it was a pretty hot shade.

In more exciting news, I have another giveaway planned! I had so much fun giving polishes away last time that I really want to do it again! More details will be coming within a week or two, so please stay tuned! :DErinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-28709631638138787082010-11-06T14:29:00.000-04:002010-11-06T14:29:11.176-04:00Sally Girl - Pink holo!Ugh, first things first! I'm sorry that it's been so long. I have problems with Blogger uploading my pictures whenever I go to update, so it's more than a little off-putting when I start an entry just to find that my photos won't load up.

I've been buying <strike>way too many</strike> a bunch of interesting polishes lately. In fact, lookie what I found at Sally Beauty Supply!

I thought those had to be expensive? Butter London, OPI DS? Nope! Try $0.99!! This soft, subtle pearly pink is packed full of scattered holo glitter.
The polish isn't bumpy or awkward, either. Very smooth, simple, and pretty.

I don't usually buy Sally Girl polishes. I don't like that they don't have names, for starters. There's so many of them! How am I supposed to keep them straight without names? Unlike other complaints I've heard, I don't mind at all that they're small. I think it's fun to buy lots of colors for a small price. :) I wish that the ones I really liked were available in a larger bottle, though. I would definitely buy this one in a larger size!

So what do you gals think? Do you love any of these itty bitty Sally Girl polishes?Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-89682096676458956002010-10-31T02:10:00.000-04:002010-10-31T02:10:31.689-04:00Odds and Ends...SWAPS!

I'm in the middle of two swaps right now, and I'm absolutely loving it! It's so fun to be able to give someone polish that they want and get something that you really want in return! :)

So let's open this up, eh?

I went through my collection of polish last weekend and sorted aside the polishes that I can live without. After organizing them into a Word document, I came up with nine full pages (with slight overflow onto the tenth page). I have a pretty fat lemming list on the right side of my blog. If you have some of the polishes on there that you would like to swap, please feel free to email me at erinface8d@gmail.com, and I can send you my big long list of polishes I have available for swaps.

China Glaze update!

While I was in Sally Beauty Supply the other day, I noticed that most (if not all) of the Up and Away and Poolside collections have been added to the core line. I also spotted Dorothy Who? in the new rack. Is this a new development, or am I behind the times on this?

Mushroom woes!

I recently bought the four newest Hard Candy polishes from Wal-Mart. While looking through my receipts, though, I noticed that the mouse-y taupe, Mushroom, had rung up at $8.00 instead of $5.00. What...? I returned the polish, expressing my confusion about EVERY OTHER HARD CANDY POLISH being $5.00, and that the $8.00 price tag could not possibly be correct. During a visit to another store, though, I found the same thing. Weird, right?

After driving up north to go to one of my favorite little restaurants for lunch, I stopped at the Wal-Mart there. Mushroom for $5.00! Hooray! Finally! Once I had unwrapped it, though, the horror! The cap had suffered a pretty severe horizontal crack that stretched across almost the entire circumference. I hadn't seen it because it was low, behind the chintzy ring they package with the polish. (Is the little plastic ring the reason that they're so much? Lame.)

Instead of hassling with another return, I took it home. My younger brother, bless his heart, is pretty handy with super glue and duct tape. :)

Hopefully I'll be able to post a real update again soon. Blogger hasn't seemed to be interested in loading my pictures lately, so here's hoping that will change. Until then, though, enjoy the rest of your weekend! Happy Halloween!Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13116044863664873438noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8137184754494428879.post-84821086331261850142010-10-27T00:08:00.001-04:002010-10-27T00:51:59.761-04:00Sally Hansen - Mystery Polish SOLVED!!So I was at Meijer today, doing that cosmetic aisle stalking thing that I do, and I came across something... rather odd.

Observe.

Excuse the sloppiness, as usual. But seriously. What is this?! It was in a gift pack, rather than the normal display, but it's not a new polish...

No label... And if I remember correctly from my teen experiences with Sally Hansen polishes, the white cap signifies that it's an older polish.

No label on the bottom, either. I've never known Sally Hansen polishes to have a bottom label, but it was worth a check. The bar code is covered because it was part of a holiday gift pack with some lip inflation products.
This polish is tiny holographic glitter suspended in a sheer gray base. To get the opacity on my nails, I needed four coats. I didn't have application issues with it, though, and with a sheer base like this, four thin coats dries quickly and doesn't feel excessive. I absolutely LOVE the pencil graphite gray, though. And as if that wasn't good enough, they stuffed it full of itsy glitters. If this were a flawless two coater, I would be in POLISH HEAVEN!!! :D
Krisinphilly (more readily known as the author of My Lucid Bubble!) informed me that it's called Night Lights. Thanks, K!
Also, while I was out today, I ran across the new Wet n Wild Megalast holiday collection. After seeing some pictures, I hadn't expected much, but I was more disappointed than I thought when I saw that...
Originality-wise, it's not much to write home about, but the colors are color accurate, reliable, and overall just a pretty decent investment, as far as drugstore polishes go. But really? SMALLER? (0.30 fl. oz. to 0.22 fl. oz.) For the same price? Lame. The store that I was at had a color for every reindeer but Vixen. The majority of this holiday collection are very unoriginal, in my opinion. The one pictured is the only one I'm hesitantly considering to buy.
